Jay Bruce got three hits, each of which drove in a run—including his fourth home run in six days—as the Mets at least ensured a tie for a Wild Card spot with a 5-1 win in Philadelphia.
Robert Gsellman pitched another great outing, scattering seven hits and a walk over six innings, allowing just a single run while striking out seven. The bullpen relay team of Fernando Salas, Addison Reed, and Jeurys Familia were lights out after that, as Familia allowed the only baserunner among them with a walk in the ninth.
The Mets now just have to win one more game to ensure the Wild Card game—or one loss from the Cardinals or two from the Giants over the coming days will accomplish the same.
