Season Record: 56-86 (Pacific Coast League Pacific South Division, 4th Place)
It appeared early on that new manager Pedro Lopez would have an uphill battle ahead of him. Coming into the season, starting pitching appeared to be a major weakness of the Las Vegas 51s. To nobody’s surprise, pitching was indeed their Achilles heel. Playing in the Pacific Coast League certainly did not help, but the 51s ended the season last in virtually every pitching-related category.
While Las Vegas’s pitching staff got knocked around like a tumbleweed in the desert, numerous hitters flourished. Top Mets prospects Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith put up career highs in multiple offensive categories in the hitter-friendly PCL environment. Outfielder Travis Taijeron matched a career high by slugging 25 home runs, while infielder/outfielder Jayce Boyd and infielder Phil Evans set a new career highs by hitting 11.
