Meet the Mets

Mets GM Sandy Alderson is reportedly not going anywhere, and there are quite a few questions facing the team he must address if the organization is to move forward.

Having been traded away by the Mets not too long ago, Jay Bruce said he had no issues with Terry Collins as a manager.

Alex Cora is rumored to be on the short list of managerial candidates the Mets are pursuing, and he received an endorsement from another former Met.

Joe McEwing is also a possible Terry Collins replacement, but there are other teams interested in hiring him as well.

Prospect Jhoan Urena has mostly been an infielder during his time in the minors, but he will move to the outfield when instructional league play starts up.

Around the NL East

The scandal in the Braves’ front office might get bigger as MLB continues its investigation. Mock drafts have the Braves selecting a pitcher in the first round of next year’s draft.

New owner Derek Jeter has reportedly changed his mind about firing some respected members in the Marlins’ front office. Giancarlo Stanton proved the projections wrong with his incredible season.

The Nationals still have some decisions to make about their postseason roster. Max Scherzer’s status remains uncertain for Game 1.

Around the Majors

It was another roller coaster Wild Card game, but the Diamondbacks held off the Rockies with the help of pitcher Archie Bradley’s triple.

Kyle Hendricks will get the start for the Cubs in Game 1 of the NLDS.

Despite battling a knee injury, Dustin Pedroia expects to be ready for the ALDS.

The Yankees named their starters for the first two games against the Indians.

The Indians are going in a different direction when it comes to setting their rotation for round one.

Lukas Vlahos took a look back at Brandon Nimmo’s productive season.

Matt Varvaro believes Terry Collins’s tenure as manager should be viewed in a positive light.

This Date in Mets History

When the Mets make the playoffs, October 5 is usually their lucky day. In 1969, the Mets took down the Braves in a 11-6 win. In 1999, Edgardo Alfonzo helped the Mets defeat the Diamondbacks with a pair of home runs, one of which was a grand slam in the ninth inning.

One year later, despite a ninth inning meltdown by Armando Benitez, Jay Payton gave the Mets the lead in the top of the tenth and the Mets were able to hold on for the win.
