Meet the Mets

New bench Gary DiSarcina comes to the Mets after serving in Boston as John Farrell’s bench coach, so the Mets’ coaching staff now has a wide variety of baseball knowledge that manager Mickey Callaway can lean on next season.

There are a few free agents that the Mets should go after, but whether they will or not remains to be seen.

Around the National League East

Some early projections have the Braves finishing second in the NL East next season.

Pitcher Wei-Yin Chen decided not to opt out of his contract with the Marlins.

Nationals’ prospect Victor Robles was named the MVP of the AFL Fall Stars Game.

Around Major League Baseball

It was a hard fought World Series between the Dodgers and Astros, and the Dodgers graciously took out an ad in the Houston Chronicle to congratulate the Astros on their win.

The Dodgers bought out the contract of outfielder Andre Ethier.

The Blue Jays were rumored to be interested in Jay Bruce last season but a trade never materialized. Now they are interested in pursuing him as a free agent.

Pitcher Johnny Cueto did not opt out of his contract and is staying with the Giants.

There are plenty of free agents available this offseason, so the speculation begins as to where the big names will end up.

This Date in Mets History

On this date last year, the Mets extended qualifying offers to both Neil Walker and Yoenis Cespedes.
