The Tampa Bay Rays traded Evan Longoria to the Giants for Denard Span, Christian Arroyo, and two prospects.
The Longoria trade does make the Giants better but they could still be a long way from contending.
Orioles closer Zach Britton ruptured his Achilles tendon during a workout and will be sidelined for at least six months.
The Indians have reportedly signed Yonder Alonso for two years and $16 million.
The Brewers are close to signing starter Jhoulys Chacin to a two-year deal.
