Meet the Mets
The Sandy Alderson era in New York will continue for at least one more year. The GM signed a new contract with the Mets but the exact details remain unknown.
Anger and frustration directed toward the Wilpons is starting to boil over this offseason, but a former GM thinks fans should simmer down.
The Wilpons most likely aren’t going anywhere but there are options for fans that allows them to show their displeasure with the owners.
Despite all their issues the Mets could still contend as long as they show a willingness to invest in some outside talent.
AJ Ramos will be an expensive member of the bullpen next season but he could be moved in order to acquire help at second base.
Around the National League East
The Braves acquired outfielder Preston Tucker from the Astros.
Fish Stripes offered their own recap of Derek Jeter’s town hall meeting with ticket holders. The Marlins’ fire sale has been a point of contention around baseball, and Commissioner Rob Manfred seemed to get caught in a lie when he denied knowledge of what the new ownership’s plans were when they took over.
It is unlikely that the Phillies will be signing any pitchers but there are a few starters on the trading block that they could potentially target.
The Nationals have reportedly signed first baseman Matt Adams to a one-year deal.
Around Major League Baseball
The Tampa Bay Rays traded Evan Longoria to the Giants for Denard Span, Christian Arroyo, and two prospects.
The Longoria trade does make the Giants better but they could still be a long way from contending.
Orioles closer Zach Britton ruptured his Achilles tendon during a workout and will be sidelined for at least six months.
The Indians have reportedly signed Yonder Alonso for two years and $16 million.
The Brewers are close to signing starter Jhoulys Chacin to a two-year deal.

This Date in Mets History
It was on this date in 2009, Omar Minaya signed R.A. Dickey to a minor league deal.
