Meet the Mets

In something of a shock move, the Mets have hired Omar Minaya as a special assistant to GM Sandy Alderson.

Ed Kranepool is insulted that no one from the Mets has called him during his recent run of bad health that’s seen him undergo three surgeries.

Mets PR man Jay Horwitz, in a rather bizarre move, told the New York Times that the estrangement between Kranepool and the Mets is due to Kranepool having criticized the Wilpons at a party six years ago for their financial management of the team during the Madoff scandal.

Stephen Matz tied the knot!

Around the National League East

The Atlanta Braves have obtained nearly $14 million in publicly-funded bonds for their spring training complex in Florida.

The Nationals finalized a one-year deal with Matt Adams.

Around Major League Baseball

Rob Manfred had a very testy interview with Dan Le Batard on Wednesday. Apparently Manfred didn’t appreciate the interview and MLB has been complaining about it to ESPN.

MLB’s average salary topped $4 million for the first time in history at the end of the last season.

The assault case against Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright has been “retired,” a first step towards the case being dismissed.

Yesterday at Amazin’ Avenue

Allison McCague came up with a list of breakout candidates for the 2018 Mets.

There was a new episode of Amazin’ Avenue Audio.

This Date in Mets History

The Mets traded for Mike Hampton on this date in 1999.
