Meet The Mets
With the Mets holiday party fast approaching, and with the (alleged) injury risk for those who dress up as Santa Claus, its being rumored that Kevin Plawecki might be playing the Man with the Bag this year.
The Mets are looking to be in the market for back-end bullpen help.
Around the National League East
Former Braves GM John Coppolella made his first public comments since being banned from Major League Baseball for tampering with the signings of international prospects.
Some of those newly released prospects have started to sign with other teams, most notably 17 year old Kevin Maitan, who inked a deal with the Angels.
Around Major League Baseball
The Royals have signed former-future Met Wily Peralta. Peralta’s name was bandied about early in the off season as a potential depth addition to the starting rotation.
The Tigers have signed outfielder Leonys Martin.
Mile Mikolas has signed a two year deal with the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Rule 5 Draft will be held next week during Winter Meets - Minor League Ball names a few interesting prospects that may become available.
New Red Sox manager Alex Cora will have to learn to navigate the media in a large market. An outburst with a reporter during his time with the Astros might portend things to come.
This Date in Mets History
On this day in 1989, the Mets and Red made a trade, sending Cincinnati Randy Myers and acquiring John Franco. Franco of course played for the Met for 14 seasons, and was the third team captain, preceding David Wright.
