Typically, the subjects of these Mind Bogglers are Mets players. However, before the 2017 season gets underway, we wanted to highlight some members of the front office and coaching staff who sometimes don’t get the recognition they deserve. We’ll start this new series by asking you to name every general manager in Mets history.
The Mets hired their current general manager, Sandy Alderson, on October 29, 2010. Alderson proceeded to engineer a complete rebuild of the organization, replenishing its farm system and trading away established major leaguers for blue chip prospects. The result was a rough first four years in which the Mets averaged just 76 wins per season and failed to finish .500 a single time.
The organization’s fortunes changed rapidly, however, once its talented young players graduated to the big leagues. The Mets won 90 games, a division title, and a National League pennant in 2015, followed by 87 wins and a Wild Card berth last year. If the team remains healthy, the Mets are poised to have a strong 2017 season that would further cement Alderson’s legacy in New York.
You’ll have three minutes for this quiz. Good luck, and remember to post your time and score in the comments!
