Poll: Who will be the Mets’ best position player in 2017?

We’re making preseason predictions. Later in the year, we’ll check back to see which ones came true!

MLB: Spring Training-Miami Marlins at New York Mets Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Today, we’re asking you to make your fifth preseason prediction about the 2017 Mets. So far, we’ve asked you to name the team’s best hitter, pitcher, defender, and rookie. In today’s poll, we’re asking who you think will be the Mets’ best position player.

Note that this is different than the first poll question, which asked about the Mets’ best offensive player. Today’s poll topic refers to the team’s best overall position player, which we’re measuring with an average of fWAR and bWAR. Keep in mind that WAR does not just measure offense, but also defense and baserunning.

Last year, Neil Walker led Mets position players with 3.7 fWAR, while Yoenis Cespedes led the pack with 2.9 bWAR. By an average of the two variations of WAR, Walker and Cespedes were tied with 3.1, and Asdrubal Cabrera finished a close third with 2.9. Tell us who you think will be the Mets’ best position player in 2017, and check back tomorrow to make your next preseason prediction!
