Last week, we asked you to name every manager in Mets history. The week before, we did the same for the team’s general mangers. For this week’s Mind Boggler, we’re moving down the chain of command and asking you to name all of the team’s pitching coaches—or at least as many as you can remember!
The Mets’ current pitching coach, Dan Warthen, is the longest-tenured member of the coaching staff. The Mets hired Warthen as their pitching coach in the middle of the 2008 season, at the same time they promoted Jerry Manuel to replace outgoing manager Willie Randolph.
While most coaches tend to fly under the radar, Warthen’s profile has grown during his years in New York. One reason is the growing fame of the “Warthen slider” that he teaches his pitchers to throw. Another is the impressive success rate that he and others in the organization have had at developing quality young arms, many of whom are now finding success in the big leagues.
You’ll have four minutes for this quiz. Good luck, and remember to post your time and score in the comments!
