It seems the Mets’ Opening Day bullpen is set.

Rafael Montero will be on the Mets’ Opening Day roster, as Seth Lugo is set to open the season on the disabled list, according to Marc Carig of Newsday. Lugo, who reportedly was going through fatigue after returning from the World Baseball Classic, had an MRI, per Carig, that showed no structural damage.

If the Mets make those moves official, their Opening Day bullpen would be set and include:

  • Addison Reed
  • Jerry Blevins
  • Fernando Salas
  • Hansel Robles
  • Josh Smoker
  • Josh Edgin
  • Rafael Montero

Someone would have to go once Jeurys Familia returns from his 15-game suspension. And the same would be true if the Mets were to activate Lugo before then and decide he’s a better fit for the bullpen than one of the pitchers already in it. These things tend to have a way of sorting themselves out, but for now, at least there’s no serious injury to Lugo.
