Jacob deGrom was shaky early but settled in nicely, Jay Bruce hit a pair of home runs, and the Mets beat the Phillies 4-3 in the first of three games in Philadelphia. deGrom got into big trouble in the bottom of the first but managed to allow just two runs to score before he escaped the inning. He threw six innings in total and didn’t allow any more runs.

Bruce hit a solo home run to halve the Phillies’ lead in the fourth, and Neil Walker hit a sac fly to tie the game in the seventh. In the eighth, Phillies reliever Edubray Ramos—the same pitcher who gave up the famous Asdrubal Cabrera bat-flip walk-off home run late last season—threw over Cabrera’s head, which caused a stir, before he walked him. And shortly thereafter, Bruce hit a bomb of a home run to right field to give the Mets a two-run lead.

Addison Reed was the only Mets reliever to allow a run, which he did when Brock Stassi hit a solo home run against him in the ninth, but he finished the inning and notched the save.

Full recap to follow.
