The Mets took the second game of their first road series of the year, defeating the Phillies 14-4. Unlike last night’s nailbiter, this was a laffer from the top of the first inning, when Yoenis Cespedes started the scoring off with a three run home run. He would hit two more, as well as a double, before the night was up. Lucas Duda, Travis d’Arnaud, and Asdrubal Cabrera all finished the night triples shy of the cycle. Believe it or not, even Jose Reyes had an extra base hit.
Matt Harvey went five and two-thirds innings before leaving with a tight hamstring in the bottom of the sixth, the extent of which is not yet known. Harvey struck out six, walked one, and gave up two earned runs. Harvey was relieved first by Hansel Robles, who did not allow a run, then by Josh Edgin, who allowed two, and finally Paul Sewald, who did not.
After the bats were reasonably quiet over the first seven games, it was nice to see players not-named Jay Bruce do some damage offensively tonight.
Full recap to follow.
