Final score: Nationals 4, Mets 3—The bad week continues

The Mets lost in extra innings again.

MLB: Washington Nationals at New York Mets Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets’ bad week didn’t get any better on Friday night at Citi Field, as the team lost 4-3 to the Nationals in eleven innings. Matt Harvey wasn’t dominant but pitched relatively well overall. He gave up three runs in seven innings of work, two of which came on a Bryce Harper home run—forgivable given his talent—and the other that came on a less-than-ideal solo home run by Jose Lobaton.

The Mets got on the board with a solo home run from Michael Conforto in the first, tied the game for the first time with on a Curtis Granderson single in the fourth, and tied it again on a Granderson home run in the sixth. But the score remained tied at three—despite what looked like a home run from Jay Bruce in the bottom of the tenth but came up short—until Jeurys Familia walked in a run in the eleventh.

It’s not time to panic, but it would be nice if the Mets turned things around soon, even if they’re dealing with a rash of injuries.
