Today is the 57th Opening Day in Mets history. In that spirit, for this week’s Mind Boggler, we’re asking you to name every Met to hit a home run on Opening Day.
Despite leading the league in home runs over the last two years, the Mets did not record a home run on either of those two Opening Days. The last time a Mets player homered on Opening Day was in 2014, when three players did so.
The Mets hope to break that streak today. Of the eight position players in the lineup, five—Jay Bruce, Yoenis Cespedes, Curtis Granderson, Neil Walker, and Asdrubal Cabrera—hit at least 20 homers last year. A sixth player, Lucas Duda, accomplished the feat in both 2014 and 2015. The Mets will rely on the long ball as a major source of their run scoring this year, and they hope to begin that trend today against Julio Teheran and the Braves.
You’ll have eight minutes for this quiz. Good luck, and remember to post your time and score in the comments!
