The Mets were blown out by the Nationals this afternoon and lost 23-5. Without looking it up, that’s among the worst single-game regular season performances the Mets have ever had, and to make things worse, Noah Syndergaard left the game in the second inning with what’s officially been called a “possible lat injury.”
Anthony Rendon was the star of the day for the Nationals, as he hit three home runs, had six hits, and drove in ten runs. The highlight of the day for the Mets might have been the sheer novelty of Kevin Plawecki getting into the game as a pitcher for a couple of innings. Believe it or not, they briefly led the game 1-0 in the first and rallied to make it close before Washington ran away with things. And believe it or not, the Mets won the three-game series.
Full recap to follow.
