Final score: Mets 7, Braves 5—Bats provide all the Mets need in Atlanta

The Mets beat the Braves to open a four-game series.

In their first game in the Braves’ new ballpark in the suburbs of Atlanta, the Mets won 7-5. They jumped out to a big league despite the fact that noted Mets killer Julio Teheran was on the mound, as Michael Conforto got the game started with a home run and the team answered a Braves run in the bottom of the first with five more runs in the top of the fourth.

Robert Gsellman was once again not particularly sharp, as he gave up five runs on six hits in five-plus innings of work without striking out any opposing hitters. But even with those struggles, the Braves never quite made it all the way back. Jose Reyes hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth, and the trio of Jerry Blevins, Addison Reed, and Jeurys Familia threw a scoreless inning apiece to finish off the victory.

Full recap to follow.
