Final Score: Brewers 7, Mets 4—Knightfall

Matt Harvey’s return did not go as planned.

MLB: New York Mets at Milwaukee Brewers Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

When it fell apart, it fell apart quickly for the Mets, and the Brewers pounced on their way to a 7-4 win.

Matt Harvey returned to the mound and tread water for five innings, but after the Mets tied the game in the sixth, the tidal wave that had been building came crashing down. Eric Sogard and Orlando Arcia hit back-to-back home runs, and once Harvey exited both Josh Edgin and Rafael Montero allowed additional runs to score.

Neil Walker had a positive day at the plate and drove in two of the Mets’ runs, one coming via a towering home run off Matt Garza. He got a rally started in the ninth with a leadoff hit, and he and Curtis Granderson would come around to score to bring the Mets closer.

Lucas Duda also made his return to the lineup and had a well-struck double in the ninth to keep the game interesting, but the rally fell short with the tying run in the on-deck circle when Wilmer Flores flied out.

Full recap to follow.
