Final Score: Brewers 11, Mets 9—Bullpen has a few too many brews

Reed gives up three-run shot, Brewers sweep Mets.

It seemed like it would be smooth sailing for the New York Mets. A very productive offensive outing that once had the Mets leading 7-1 was spoiled yet again by their pitching staff on the way to an 11-9 come-from-ahead loss to the Brewers.

Jacob deGrom had the start today, and had a great day at the plate, going 2-for-3 and reaching on an error during the fifth inning. His batting average improved to .333 and his .OPS of .722 was actually the sixth best in today’s starting lineup. Unfortunately he would not find that same success on the mound, giving up four runs in six inning while striking out seven batters. This marks the 14th straight game where Mets starting pitching has not been able to go past six innings.

The bullpen was once again the Mets’ undoing, as Jerry Blevins, Fernando Salas, Josh Edgin, and Addison Reed gave up seven runs in just two innings of work. Reed gave up a three-run homer in the eighth inning to give Milwaukee the 11-9 lead they’d carry to the end.

Full recap to follow.
