Despite an attempt at a comeback, the Mets suffered their first loss at SunTrust Park 9-7.
This was a seesaw of a game in the first three innings until the Braves took control in the fourth and never looked back. The Mets and Braves traded runs to make it 3-3 after three, but Matt Harvey lost control in the fourth and the newest Met-killer Ender Inciarte gave the Braves a lead with a two-run single.
Harvey could not make it out of the sixth inning, so it was once again an early night for the bullpen. Josh Smoker and Fernando Salas were hit hard so the Braves were able to pad their lead, and Josh Edgin got lucky when Juan Lagares nailed a runner at the plate to prevent a run from scoring during his appearance.
Jay Bruce picked up another multi-home run game when he bookended the game with home runs. He blasted a two-run home run in the first and made the score respectable in the ninth when he hit a grand slam to bring the Mets to within two runs.
Travis d’Arnaud also had to be taken out of the game with a sore wrist which compounds the loss a bit more.
Full recap to follow.
