Final Score: Angels 12, Mets 5—Milone can’t keep the Angels on the ground

The Angels buried the Mets early, and the Mets’ bats didn’t bridge the gap.

MLB: Los Angeles Angels at New York Mets Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

The Sunday struggles continued in Flushing, as the Mets lost to the Angels by a 12-5 score. Making his third start for the Mets, Tommy Milone gave up seven runs on seven hits while walking two and striking out three. After loading the bases after the Mets intentionally walked Mike Trout in the first, he allowed a run from Jefry Marte on a walk then gave up a grand slam to C.J. Cron. He gave up two more earned runs before he was replaced by Rafael Montero early in the second inning.

Hansel Robles surrendered three runs in the seventh inning on a three-run home run by Andrelton Simmons.

The Mets’ bats fared better than their arms. Jay Bruce hit a three-run home run with one walk. Wilmer Flores went 2-for-4, with both hits coming against right-handed pitching. Curtis Granderson, who is hopefully awaking from a very cold stretch, went 2-for-4 with a home run.

Full recap to follow.
