Travis d’Arnaud caught Steven Matz for the Las Vegas 51s last nigh and should be back with the Mets soon. the Mets’ catcher went on the DL earlier this month with a bone bruise on his right wrist. He initially sustained the injury in April when his wrist hit Aaron Altherr’s bat when he was attempting to throw a runner out. He tried to play through it but had to exit a game early in May when the injury started to bother him again.
While Rene Rivera has performed admirably in Travis d’Arnaud’s absence, d’Aranud’s return to the lineup will be a welcome one. Rivera’s newfound offense might not be sustainable, while d’Aranud has at times shown himself to be an offensive threat at the plate. Coming off a poor, injury-shortened season in 2016, d’Arnaud has hit .203/.288/.475 with four home runs in 66 plate appearances so far this season.
