Matt Harvey threw six solid innings, working in and out of trouble, as the Mets claimed the rubber game of their series in Pittsburgh against the Pirates with a 7-2 victory.
The Pirates jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a Gregory Polanco home run leading off the bottom of the second. That score held until the top of the fourth, when an Asdrubal Cabrera two-run double off the left-center field wall gave the Mets a 2-1 lead.
The Mets broke it open in the fifth with a rally that started with a one-out single by Harvey. Three batters later, the Mets had extended their lead to 5-1 courtesy of a Curtis Granderson double, Jose Reyes single, and Jay Bruce double.
The Mets added single runs in the sixth and seventh, and the Mets’ bullpen managed to keep the game from getting any further than mildly, tangentially interesting from there.
