After falling way behind early, the Mets made the Marlins’ tears rain down like a monsoon en route to an 8-7 comeback victory at Citi Field tonight.
Rafael Montero got the start for the Mets, and he was barely watchable, allowing five runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings. He was relieved by Josh Smoker, who allowed two of Montero’s baserunners to score and then coughed up two runs of his own, which left the score 7-1 with the Mets coming up to bat in the fourth.
Curtis Granderson plated two with a two-run homer in that frame, then the Mets tacked on a five-spot in the bottom of the seventh on six hits and a couple of walks, including a bases-loaded pass to Wilmer Flores that brought in the eventual winning run.
Addison Reed kept the Marlins off the board in the eighth and Jeurys Familia closed the door in the ninth for a neat come-from-behind win.
Full recap to follow.
