Final Score: Brewers 2, Mets 1 - No offense

The Mets split the series with the Brewers.

MLB: San Diego Padres at New York Mets Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets lost to the Brewers today 2-1 at Citi Field. Zack Wheeler started for the Mets, and was his usual self: reasonably successful but with a pitch count that did not allow him to go deep into the game, and so was pulled after six and a third innings. Jerry Blevins and Fernando Salas kept it interesting, but got the Mets through the rest of the game unscathed.

The offense, for the second straight day, was simply not there for the Mets today. Chase Anderson absolutely stymied the Mets, scattering three singles and one walk across seven scoreless innings, striking out seven in the process. Aside from a Wilmer Flores home run in the bottom of the eighth, the Mets’ only scoring opportunity ended with Lucas Duda being tagged out at the plate in the bottom of the second.

The Mets had the tying run on first in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn’t do anything against closer Corey Knebel.

Full recap to follow.
