The Mets, behind the returning Seth Lugo, took their third straight game over the Braves at Suntrust Stadium, winning 2-1 in the getaway game. Making his first start of the year, Lugo went seven innings, struck out six, walked two, and gave up one run on six hits. While he labored a bit at times, Lugo’s stuff looked sharp, and his 90 pitches shut down the Braves.
Jaime Garcia didn’t fare too much worse for the Braves, but the Mets scored two runs on a Wilmer Flores sacrifice fly in the first and a Juan Lagares single in the third. Both bullpens kept the game close, even though the Mets missed out a number of scoring opportunities, loading the bases in the eighth, but failing to score an insurance run.
The Mets, over the past three games, have limited the Braves to just three runs, getting incredible starting pitching and some timely hitting. The Mets will return to Citi Field to face the Cubs tomorrow night, and hope that this string of quality starts can continue.
Full recap to follow.
