This is our place to keep track of all of the Mets’ picks in the 2017 amateur draft, whether or not they sign with the team, and the amount of money the signed players agree to so we can compare it to the league’s fairly strict slot values that serve as something of a salary cap on the incoming professional players.

Since the beginning of the Sandy Alderson era, the Mets have gone heavy on position players with their first picks. Outfielder Brandon Nimmo, infielder Gavin Cecchini, first baseman Dominic Smith, and outfielder Michael Conforto constitute four of those. They didn’t have a first-round pick in 2015, though their top pick that year was also a position player in outfielder Desmond Lindsay. And for the first time since Alderson took over, their top pick was a pitcher last year when they took the right-handed Justin Dunn.
Of course, those weren’t the only picks the team made in the first round, as compensatory picks are part of that round, too. With those picks, the Mets took right-handed pitcher Michael Fulmer, who they turned into Yoenis Cespedes, catcher Kevin Plawecki, and left-handed pitcher Anthony Kay.
