Final Score: Mets 6, Cubs 1—Going the distance

Jacob deGrom was de-lightful.

The Mets welcomed the defending champs and won 6-1 behind Jacob deGrom’s brilliant performance.

deGrom got the start after two of the worst games of his career and was excellent. He pitched his first complete game of the season and looked in control the entire game. He was not overpowering but was extremely efficient. He allowed baserunners but they were usually erased by a double play. He got four double plays in consecutive innings and ended the night with a flourish.

Asdrubal Cabrera and Jose Reyes crashed to drop a pop up early on, but Cabrera more than made up for it. He hit two home runs off Cubs’ starter John Lackey to put them on the board and to extend the lead. Jay Bruce continued his hot hitting and hit a laser for a two-run home run. The Mets tacked on two runs in the ninth and ended the night playing well in all facets of the game.

The only worry is that Yoenis Cespedes left the game early with a sore heel, but for now the Mets continue to roll behind their pitching.

Full recap to follow.
