Final Score: Nationals 8, Mets 3-The losses keep mounting

That could’ve gone better.

The Mets’ momentum from the Cubs series came to a screeching halt when they were easily defeated by the Nationals 8-3. Robert Gsellman was hit hard all night but the defense behind him was also less than stellar.

Daniel Murphy benefited the most from the lack of defense, but since it is Daniel Murphy the ball seemed to avoid gloves at all costs and he continues to torture his former team.

Bryce Harper put Washington on the board first with a home run in the first inning and the Nationals never really looked back. The Mets did attempt to get back in it when the game was still close. Yoenis Cespedes and Jay Bruce hit back-to-back doubles to give the Mets their first run, but for the most part the offense could not get going against Gio Gonzalez. Rene Rivera and Wilmer Flores both hit home runs when the game was already out of hand.

The Mets not only lost on the field but they lost another player to an injury. Juan Lagares injured his finger diving for a ball and the pain keeps mounting for this team.

Full recap to follow.
