The Mets got shellacked by the Nationals again tonight, this time losing 7-2 in a game that never even really felt that close. Steven Matz gave up four runs on eight hits, three of which were home runs, in seven innings of work. And with Max Scherzer very much on top of his game, the Mets didn’t stand a chance.
Scherzer went eight innings and gave up just a solo home run to Jose Reyes in the eighth. He struck out ten, walked two, and hit a couple of guys. The Mets plated one more run on a solo Jay Bruce home run in the ninth, but it was too little, too late, as they didn’t mount anything resembling a rally after that.
Full recap to follow.
