The Mets ushered in summer with an ugly 12-0 loss to the Dodgers. The summer solstice was at 12:24 am Eastern Time, and one minute earlier Josh Edgin said goodbye to spring by walking in the 11th run of the night for the Dodgers.
It was déjà vu all over again for the Mets in the first inning when they immediately found themselves in a hole after both Corey Seager and Cody Bellinger took starter Robert Gsellman deep. That was only the beginning for Seager. He added two more home runs and double before the night is over. He made a bid for the home run cycle when he came up to bat with the bases loaded in the sixth, but he mercifully flew out.
The Dodgers’ offense was unrelenting and slugged five home runs total for the night. The Met offense did the opposite of that. They could not get to starter Brandon McCarthy and they had fewer hits than the Dodgers had home runs. They threw in some sloppy defense for good measure and it was all around a nightmarish night at Dodgers Stadium.
Full recap to follow.
