Final Score: Mets 11, Giants 4—Call off the dogs

The Mets release some frustrations against the Giants.

MLB: New York Mets at San Francisco Giants Neville E. Guard-USA TODAY Sports

The buzzards were circling overhead in the late innings—oh wait, those were seagulls—but this time the half-empty stadium was not the result of fickle, happy fans beating freeway traffic, but of the Mets turning the game into a blowout on the winning side, as they defeated the Giants 11-4.

After exchanging runs in the first inning—the Mets on a Wilmer Flores single, the Giants on a Brandon Belt RBI double—the Mets unleashed some pent-up frustrations in the top of the second. The offense unloaded on Giant starter Ty Blach in the frame, riding five doubles and a Yoenis Cespedes home run to an early 7-1 lead.

Seth Lugo was efficient early, needing only 59 pitches to get through the first five innings. The Mets added three more in the top of the sixth on RBIs from Cespedes, Flores and Michael Conforto, which kept the lead comfortable when Lugo tired in the sixth and allowed three runs of his own.

A Lucas Duda home run in the top of the seventh rounded out the scoring, as the Mets won their first game in San Francisco after a nightmarish four days in Los Angeles.

Full recap to follow.
