Coming off a disappointing series against the Dodgers, the Mets were desperate for any help they could get. Enter the Giants, National League West cellar-dwellers. The Mets teed off on the Giants, on their way to an 11-4 win.

In perhaps the day’s biggest story, Asdrubal Cabrera asked the Mets for a trade after they asked him to switch positions and play second base.

News of Cabrera’s trade request apparently caught many of his young Mets teammates by surprise.

The Mets have little bullpen help available in the their minor league system.

Former Mets and Nationals pitcher John Lannan is available. He’s currently pitching for the Long Island Ducks.

The Mets are finally ready to listen to trade offers for some of their veteran players.

The Braves beat the Brewers in Atlanta.

The Nationals beat the Reds thanks to a walk-off hit from Bryce Harper.

The Phillies took down the Diamondbacks.

The Marlins won against the Cubs, sealing a perfect day for NL East teams.

Derek Jeter’s group announced that it doesn’t have the funds to purchase the Marlins.

Around MLB

The Dodgers have lost Julio Urias for the season. He’ll need to undergo shoulder surgery and could be sidelined as long as 14 months.

David Ortiz had his number retired by the Red Sox, becoming the 10th player in Red Sox history to receive the honor.

Padres outfielder Alex Dickerson will miss the rest of 2017 after undergoing back surgery.

The Tigers released Francisco Rodriguez.
