Final Score: Mets 8, Marlins 0-Fish Fry

The Mets looked strong tonight in South Florida

MLB: New York Mets at Miami Marlins Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets defeated the Marlins tonight in Miami, 8-0. Asdrubal Cabrera got the game off to a quick start, hitting a two-run home run in the second at-bat of the game off starter Jeff Locke. A Jose Reyes RBI single put the Mets up 3-0 before starter Steven Matz even took the mound.

Matz was solid tonight, giving up just five hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking just one. After last night's game taxed the bullpen considerably, Matz's start helped the team rest the bullpen, where the Mets only had to use two relievers - Josh Edgin and Chase Bradford - to close out the game.

Travis d'Arnaud added a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh, followed up by a two run shot by Curtis Granderson. In the eight, Brandon Nimmo knocked in two more with a single, putting the game far out of reach. While the game was never really close, the insurance runs certainly were nice.

Full recap to follow.
