The Mets beat the Phillies 2-1 tonight at Citi Field, as Jacob deGrom was excellent in seven innings. He took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, but that ended when Curtis Granderson couldn’t find a fly ball in the lights and it fell in behind him for a triple. But deGrom was incredibly unlikely to pitch nine innings, even if the no-hitter remained intact, because of his pitch count.
And Granderson drove in one of the Mets’ two runs on the night with a single in the second inning. Travis d’Arnaud plated the other one in the fourth, also on a single, and those two runs held up, as the runner who reached on the aforementioned triple scored but no other Phillies did.
