The Mets lost to the Pirates this afternoon by an 11-1 score, and it was never even close. Tyler Pill gave up five runs in his start, two of which were able to score in part because Michael Conforto made a pair of terrible throws from the outfield. But to pin the game on Conforto’s defense alone would be foolish, as the Mets were completely ineffective at the plate and gave up even more runs when the bullpen took over for Pill.
With that, the Mets are seven games below .500 again, teetering on the brink of oblivion. Given the opportunity to win a series, they did not, and their performance in series finales at home this year has been abysmal.
Full recap to follow.
