Monday Morning Mets Mind Boggler: Complete games

Can you name every pitcher to throw at least 15 complete games with the Mets?

MLB: New York Mets at Pittsburgh Pirates Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Jacob deGrom recently became the first—and still the only—Met to pitch into the ninth inning this year. No Mets pitcher has yet thrown a complete game in 2017. For this week’s Mind Boggler, we’d like you to name every pitcher in franchise history to throw at least 15 complete games with the Mets.

Mets pitchers with at least 15 complete games

The complete game is becoming an increasingly rare event in baseball. Major league pitchers threw 290 complete games as recently as 1996. By 2006, that number was cut virtually in half to 144. Last year, major league pitchers threw just 83 complete games.

Mets pitchers have followed a similar trend. Jacob deGrom, for example, threw the team’s only complete game in 2016. Ten years earlier, the Mets got complete games from five different pitchers: Orlando Hernandez, John Maine, Oliver Perez, Alay Soler, and Steve Trachsel. Ten years before that, five Mets pitchers combined for 10 complete games. Those pitchers were Bobby Jones, Mark Clark, Pete Harnisch, Jason Isringhausen, and Paul Wilson.

You’ll have four minutes for this quiz. Good luck, and remember to post your time and score in the comments!
