Final Score: Cardinals 5, Mets 0—Why do (red) birds suddenly appear?

Matt Carpenter goes 4-for-5, Mets three-hit by Michael Wacha.

MLB: St. Louis Cardinals at New York Mets Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets dropped the second game of their series against the Cardinals 5-0 on the back of a poor pitching performance from Rafael Montero. Montero allowed four runs, two of which were earned while striking out five over six innings. Fernando Salas entered in relief, allowing another run in two-thirds of an inning while striking out two.

Matt Carpenter went 4-for-5 on the evening with two doubles. Every member of the Cardinals lineup collected a hit in tonight’s outing.

The offense simply couldn’t get it done against Michael Wacha, who was masterful tonight, pitching nine shutout innings, striking out seven and only walking one.

The Mets and Cardinals continue their four-game series tomorrow at 7:10PM, when Mike Leake will take on Jacob deGrom.
