Final Score: Mets 7, Cardinals 3—deGrominant

The Mets beat the Cardinals. Yay!

MLB: St. Louis Cardinals at New York Mets Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

After a couple of particularly uninspiring losses to the Cardinals, the Mets bounced back and beat St. Louis handily tonight at Citi Field, 7-3. There was a little drama, but it was a relatively easy win for the Mets, who scored all of their runs in the first two innings.

Jacob deGrom was good, the offense was good, and the bullpen made things interesting until Addison Reed came into the game. Paul Sewald and Jerry Blevins tried to give the game away in the eighth, but Reed came on with the bases loaded, two outs, and the tying run at the plate, and struck out Luke Voit to end the threat. He added a scoreless ninth to seal the victory for the Mets.

Yoenis Cespedes had a much-needed productive night at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Asdrubal Cabrera collected three hits, perhaps boosting his trade value further. Jose Reyes knocked in two runs, and Jay Bruce, Lucas Duda, and Wilmer Flores drove in a run apiece.

Full recap to follow.
