Pitching six and a third innings, striking out six, and allowing four runs is pretty standard outcome for Montero. Not good, by any stretch of the imagination, but not a total disaster. On a good day, four runs isn’t an insurmountable hill to climb, but the Mets batters simply did not do anything to support their pitcher today, being held to just one run - a solo home run from T.J. Rivera.
Chasen Bradford followed Montero in relief, allowing three runs on four Phillies singles.
The Mets scattered a few other attempts to bring runners home to the plate - most notably during the ninth inning where Asdrubal Cabrera and Jay Bruce both reached on fielding errors with one out.
The Mets now travel to Washington D.C. to take on the division leading Nationals.
Full recap to follow.
