Final Score: Athletics 3, Mets 2—Sunday, no fun-day

The Sunday struggles continue as A’s top Mets in finale.

Despite what was arguably one of the better starts of Rafael Montero’s season, the Athletics defeated the Mets 3-2. Montero pitched seven innings, striking out four and walking one, while allowing home runs to Marcus Semien, Khris Davis, and Matt Chapman. Montero also collected his first major league hit—a single in the fifth inning.

Michael Conforto continued his impressive play, going 2-for-4 and hitting his 19th home run of the season. Athletics starter Daniel Gossett held the Mets at bay for most of the afternoon, allowing just two runs over six innings while fanning six batters.

With Addison Reed sidelined (or maybe being held out intentionally) the bullpen remained effective, with Fernando Salas and Josh Smoker combining for two solid innings of relief.

Full recap to follow.
