Mets call up top prospect Amed Rosario

It’s happening!

MLB: All Star Game-Futures Game Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

According to Mets’ GM Sandy Alderson, top prospect Amed Rosario will join the big league club tomorrow in Colorado. Despite not moving any infield pieces at the trade deadline, Rosario is expected to slide into the shortstop position. Neil Walker, Asdrubal Cabrera, and Jose Reyes will fill in the other positions around Rosario.

Heading into the 2017 season, Rosario was ranked as the Mets’ number one prospect, and topped Keith Law’s prospect rankings when the two prospects ahead of him graduated to the majors.

The 21-year-old did not disappoint in his first season in Triple-A Las Vegas. He is currently hitting .328/.367/.466 with seven home runs and 58 RBIs. He represented the Mets in the 2017 Futures Game and the Triple-A All-Star Game.

It was rumored that Asdrubal Cabrera could have been blocking Rosario’s call-up, but it appears the Mets are unwilling to wait any longer for their top prospect to make his debut. With a lost 2017 season, the Mets will need to use these last two months to help them prepare for 2018 and beyond, and to see if, in fact, Amed Rosario is ready.
