The Mets closed out the first half of the season in St. Louis today, being blanked by the Cardinals 6-0. Steven Matz’s streak of impressive starts went by the wayside, as he gave up five earned runs in four and a third innings.
Tommy Pham, Paul DeJong, and Luke Voit all hit solo home runs, while the Mets managed just three hits against Lance Lynn - Lance Lynn! - and never looked like they were in the game to begin with. Michael Conforto, Jay Bruce, and Rene Rivera - three of the few offensive bright spots for the Mets this season - collected the team’s only hits, a trio of singles. No Met hitter stood on second base or beyond today.
The Mets lost the series, their final before the All-Star break, and close out the first half with a 39-47 record. Conforto will be representing the team in Miami, and the break will, hopefully, give the Mets a bit of a breather before embarking on their next series against the Rockies on Friday.
Full recap to follow.
