Meet the Mets

The Mets were off on Monday, but that doesn’t mean they were inactive.

In the big news of the day, the Mets traded Addison Reed to the Red Sox for a package of three prospects.

The Mets also finally called up Amed Rosario after months of speculation.

FanGraphs had a rundown on the three prospects the Mets received for Reed.

Around the NL East

The Braves made no moves at the deadline and also suffered the indignity of losing to the Phillies.

Speaking of the Phillies, they made a deadline deal to send reliever Joaquin Benoit to the Pirates.

The Twins dealt their All-Star closer Brandon Kintzler to the Nationals.

The Nationals also won a 1-0 victory over the Marlins, though Gio Gonzalez lost his no-hit bid in the ninth inning.

Jose Fernandez’s family was at the game in Miami on what would have been his 25th birthday.

Around MLB

Here’s a rundown of some of the winners and losers from the trade deadline.

The biggest trade of the day was probably the Dodgers’ acquisition of Yu Darvish from the Rangers.

It was followed closely by the Yankeestrade for Oakland’s Sonny Gray.

White Sox second baseman Yoan Moncada had to be carted off the field after a scary collision in the outfield.

Steve Bartman is being given a 2016 World Series ring by the Cubs.

A new affidavit filed in Pete Rose’s suit against John Dowd supports Dowd’s claim that Rose was a statutory rapist. An unidentified woman claims in the sworn affidavit that Rose had sex with her before she turned 16 when he was playing for the Reds in the 1970’s.

This Date in Mets History

Sad the Mets traded Duda and Reed? Well back in 1989 they traded Mookie Wilson for Jeff Musselman on this date, so feel relieved.
