Final Score: Marlins 3, Mets 1—We’re going (losing) streaking!

Flexen was fine, but received little run support as losing streak reaches 5 games.

Another middling start from Chris Flexen gave the Mets their fifth consecutive loss, as Miami defeated New York 3-1. Flexen, now 2-2 with a 6.55 ERA in his short major league career, pitched five-and-a-third innings and gave up three runs to the Marlins. Control continued to be an issue for Flexen, who walked four batters—and two of those walks were to Giancarlo Stanton. Thankfully, Stanton was held in check in the game, going 0-for-2 with those walks and a run scored.

J.T. Realmuto hit a two-run home run in the top of the second to open the scoring in the game. And Marcell Ozuna hit an RBI sacrifice fly to plate Stanton and extend Miami’s lead 3-0.

The Mets did manage to outhit the Marlins, but they were only able to produce one run on an RBI single from Wilmer Flores to cut the lead to 3-1. Despite a strong outing from the bullpen, New York was unable to muster any additional runs and dropped the opening game of the weekend series.

Full recap to follow.
