The Mets began their month of August on a low note, being defeated by the Rockies 5-4. Steven Matz had the start, and fared well at first, holding Colorado hitless until the fourth inning. During the sixth, Matz allowed a single to Charlie Blackmon, a double to DJ LeMahieu, and a home run to Nolan Arenado the net the Rockies three runs.

The big story of tonight was the debut of highly touted prospect Amed Rosario. He finished 1-for-4 with a strikeout. His elite speed was on display, hitting an infield single and beating the tag before advancing to second on a throwing error. Defensively, he handled all of the standard plays that came his way, save for a potentially crucial misplay during the bottom of the ninth, which set up Arenado’s walk off hit.
