The Mets continue their absolutely abysmal play on Sundays, dropping the finale of this three-game set to the Marlins, 6-4. Jacob deGrom started for the Mets, and looked solid for the first six innings, giving up two runs and striking out eight while not walking any. In the seventh, a couple of singles and a Giancarlo Stanton home run put the Mets in a hole they couldn’t dig out of.
Adam Conley has had an up and down season this year, but looked absolutely stymied the Mets today, striking out 11 and walking two. Through Conley’s start, the lone Met offense came from a Yoenis Cespedes solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. Once Conley left, the Mets made a run at it, with run-scoring double from Cespedes, a Wilmer Flores sacrifice fly, and a Travis d’Arnaud single in the eighth. The Mets couldn’t climb all the way back, however, and went quietly in the ninth inning.
