Final score: Diamondbacks 3, Mets 2—Get on the snake

Although they got a good start out of Robert Gsellman, the Mets lost to the Diamondbacks by a 3-2 score in the first game of a four-game series against the Wild Card contenders in Queens. Each team scored just once in the first nine innings of the game, with Gsellman surrendering only one run in 6.1 innings before Yoenis Cespedes singled in a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game.

But after the Mets’ bullpen shut out Arizona for a while, A.J. Pollock hit a two-run home run against Erik Goeddel in the top of the tenth. Michael Conforto hit a solo home run in the bottom of the inning, but that was it for the Mets’ scoring on the night.
