The kids shined in the Mets’ 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks. Chris Flexen, Paul Sewald, Michael Conforto, Amed Rosario, Brandon Nimmo, and Dominic Smith all had a hand in the victory.
Flexen got off to a shaky start but settled in after giving up an early 1-0 lead. He has improved greatly since his debut, and even though walks are still an issue, he kept the damage to a minimum. He pitched six solid innings and struck out five Arizona batters. Jerry Blevins had a shaky relief appearance, but Paul Sewald bailed him out and looked great in almost two innings of relief.
The Met offense immediately erased the 1-0 deficit in the first, when Michael Conforto drove in Brandon Nimmo to tie the game. They would connect again in the fifth when Nimmo scored on Conforto’s second hit of the game. Nimmo reached base four times out of the leadoff spot.
Amed Rosario continued his hot hitting and gave them the lead in the fourth when he lined a sharp single to right to bring home Dominic Smith. It was then Smith’s turn to shine when he blasted a solo shot in the sixth.
The veterans did not do too much in this one, but Juan Lagares’s glove can still make an impact in the game, and AJ Ramos picked up the save to give them the victory.
Full recap to follow.
