Although they fell behind 5-0 with Chris Flexen on the mound in his second major league start, the Mets came back to turn that five-run deficit into a five-run lead and beat the Rockies by a 10-5 score in their Wednesday night game in Colorado.
With Flexen out of the game after three innings because of a blister, the Mets’ bullpen was excellent the rest of the way. And as they shut the Rockies out the rest of the way, they gave the offense the opportunity to come back. The Mets scored twice in the fourth, twice more in the fifth, and six times in the sixth—with just about everyone getting in on the act over the span of those three innings. And it was Curtis Granderson who hit a three-run home run in that frame to turn a 5-5 tie into an 8-5 lead.
These games may not mean much at this point in the season, but it’s still fun to see the Mets pull off the improbable.
Full recap to follow.
